May 29, 2012Like the Daschund, the Doberman Pinscher can trace its history to Germany. But the Doberman Pinscher originated much later, around the turn of the 20th century. A tax collector named Louis Doberman of Apolda initiated the breed’s development as he desired a companion dog that could also guard well. It is believed that a breeder used the German Pinscher, the Rottweiler, and the Black and Tan Terrier to develop this breed.

Daschund in German is translated as "badger dog." (dahx-hoond)
